Some of the fondest memories and greatest lessons experienced from my childhood came from San Gabriel Valley Children’s Choir. Growing up I have always been shy and easily overwhelmed. My parents signed me up for choir at the age of 6. The teachers took me in as if i were their own child, and choir quickly became my second home. My sisters joined the choir following me, and my parents continued to support us every Saturday. As years passed by, I learned more than just how to sing, but lessons on confidence and perseverance. When I was anxious, I was encouraged and cheered on by the loving teachers. My confidence grew and I went on to join piano and vocal CM. Mr. and Mrs. Lin taught me discipline that I continue to apply in my daily life. Later, I attended the choir Europe trip which became one of the best experiences of my life. The opportunity to sing with multiple choirs in Austrian cathedrals opened my eyes to the beauty of many voices. Music became a source of light in my life. It provided an outlet where I could freely use my voice and let my anxieties pass. To this day, I am thankful for everything the choir taught me. All the songs I sang and the lessons I’ve learned were crucial in shaping me into the person I am today. I am so grateful that I was able to grow up alongside the friends and newfound family I met at choir. My love for music that was instilled in me from choir will be carried on for the rest of my life.
